ABA Secures Permanent Home New charter campus offers charter school over 80,000 sq. ft. of learning space and over six (6) acres of vacant land

Albuquerque, NM - The Albuquerque Bilingual Academy (ABA) readies itself for potential growth in a recent $6.9M acquisition of their K-8 campus located at 7500 La Morada Pl. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. This facility boasts over 80,000 sq. ft. of current and potential classroom space and over six (6) acres of adjacent vacant property located just east of the building structures that make up the school complex.

ABA partnered with Raza Development Fund, a capital lending body and charity, to secure financing for the property acquisition. The mission of Raza Development Fund is to invest in capital and create financial solutions to increase opportunities for Latino and low-income families across the country. “We were beyond fortunate to have this opportunity that was made possible by RDF. After researching our school and learning of our trials, tribulations, and eventual triumphs, the RDF team began work with our landlord, the Earlier Learning Solutions Foundation, Inc. to complete the underwriting process and eventually finalize the transaction.”

This transaction was approved by the New Mexico Public Schools Facilities Authority (NMPSFA) through a Lease Purchase Agreement (LPA). A NMPSFA-approved LPA allows ABA to make permanent improvements to their buildings and property and also makes allowable the use of capital funds to make payments towards monthly mortgage payments, preserving the school's operational funds for classroom spending. “Our students, families, and staff now have some sense of security in knowing that we have overcome our previous obstacles and can now put our energies into educating students and serving our community, said Chris Jones, Head Administrator.”

ABA raised its school grade from an F in 2015-2016 steadily to a C in 2017-2018, and continued to demonstrate great promise under the state’s new accountability system. The school boasts some of the state’s highest proficiency rates for English Learners. ABA is a Top 10 highest performing charters in terms of math growth between 2015-2018. In February 2019, ABA received the New Mexico Public Education Department’s prestigious Bilingual Multicultural Education Program Recognition Award. ABA received a full five-year contract renewal in July 2020.

ABA provides additional programs and services for its students including a Full time Social Worker, Free mental health counseling for students through partnership with ABQ Counseling, Free breakfast and lunch, Clothing vouchers for students, Free transportation services, Free dental, vision, and hearing screenings for students, Free after school program for students, English Language Development classes for parents and formal athletics programs for students.
