Beginning Monday, March 16, New Mexico K-12 public schools will close for three weeks to mitigate the risk of community spread of COVID-19. While the closing is currently effective through April 6, it may be extended as conditions warrant. NMPED and New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) are working together on a daily basis to share the most current information as well as to consult on protocols, procedures and best practices. Hello,

Thank you for visiting my page.

My name is Priyam Banerjee and I'm one of the third grade teachers here at La Promesa Early Learning Center.  This is my 6th year teaching at Albuquerque Bilingual Academy. Prior to this, I taught PreK at ABA and kindergarten at a private school in Albuquerque. I have also taught 4-6th grade Social Studies and English Language Arts in Calcutta, India where I'm originally from. My husband and I have been living in Albuquerque for the past 9 years now. In my spare time, I love to read horror and sci-fi novels and try new baking recipes.

I graduated magna cum laude from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York with my B.A. in 2009. I hold a Level II New Mexico teaching licensure in Early Childhood Education (Birth - 3rd grade) with a TESOL endorsement. I teach the English component of third grade along with with my lovely partner teacher, Ms. Cotrina. I am very excited for this upcoming year and honored to teach all these wonderful third graders.

HOME WORK POLICY:

Reading and writing: Each student should read a minimum of 20 minutes in English and 20 minutes in Spanish each day. This must be logged on the reading log that will be handed out on Mondays. Each Friday, the teacher will collect these completed logs. Students student will receive a packet of Math worksheets every Monday that will have to be completed and brought back to school by the following Friday for complete credit.

CLASSDOJO POLICY: Students will earn or lose points each week based on their focus on class, homework, behavior, etc. Every 2 weeks, the names of the 4 students with the most points will be put in a bag and the winning student will get a small prize - a reading book, a bag of jelly beans, a special notebook, a super pencil, etc. With this, we will try to encourage students to try their best and succeed in school. All parents must be logged and connected to ClassDojo – this will be the primary method of communication between parents and teachers.

TESTING: As you know, 3rd grade is the first grade where students have to take the SBA  exam along with other testing through the academic year. This test is complicated and long. In order to better prepare your children here, I am providing you with a link that you can access on a computer or tablet so that your child can practice at home. At school, we will use this practice test to prepare for this test in addition to other daily activities and exercises.

They can practice reading and writing as well as the math sections. Select one or the other and click on 3rd grade, then on computer based practice 1. There are 3 practice units for reading and 4 for math. It is VERY IMPORTANT for students to become familiar with these practices as early as possible.

We encourage you to also access iStation at home on a weekly basis to monitor your child’s progress.

CONTACT INFO: My email address is pbanerjee@lpelc.com – please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns about your child or the classroom.

Thank you and I look forward to your cooperation this school year.
