    Today, @GOVMLG will sign an Executive Order to direct New Mexico public education to shift to a learn-at-home model as schools remain closed for the rest of the academic year.

    Beginning Monday, March 16, New Mexico K-12 public schools will close for three weeks to mitigate the risk of community spread of COVID-19. While the closing is currently effective through April 6, it may be extended as conditions warrant. NMPED and New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) are working together on a daily basis to share the most current information as well as to consult on protocols, procedures and best practices. Hello, my name is Coach Dave Romo. I have been married to my high school swetheart Maryann for 42 years. We have a son Justin and daughter in law April who serve in the US Airforce. We have two daughters, Jocinda and Katrina. Jocinda has a degree in respiratory therapy from PIMA medical school and Katrina works at UNM in the early childhood program where she is earning her degree in child psychology.  We have 6 grandkids.

I am starting my 9th year teaching health and physical education at LPELC and I also serve as the school’s Athletic Director. I have a level III teaching license and have taught in NM for 40 years. I graduated with an associates of arts degree from New Mexico Military Institute and have a bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in Kansas. I earned a Master's of Science Degree from the University of New Mexico. I started my teaching career in 1978 at Santa Rosa High School where I taught biology and anatomy. I taught physical education and health at Albuquerque High School for 26 years. At AHS I coached football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, cross country, served as head of the physical education department and athletic director. I also taught at Albuquerque Evening High School. I was the head basketball coach at Eldorado high school and ran the in-school suspension program. I have taught summer school at numerous high schools during my teaching career. During my time as an educator I coached numerous AAU boys and girls national basketball teams. In 1995 my 14 and under boys basketball team took second in the nation at the Basketball Congress International Tournament.  I spent the rest of my years before coming to La Promesa at Nuestro Valores Charter School and Bataan Military Academy as a health and physical education instructor.

My interest and hobbies include movie night with the family, traveling with my wife, working on my vehicles and helping my family with their projects. I also enjoy hunting and fishing with my grandson.
